Install Bugcap

Install it in Chrome

1. Unzip the file. You'll get a folder called bugcap. Move it somewhere permanent, such as your Documents folder. Chrome loads the extension from this folder, so deleting it removes Bugcap.
2. Open the extensions page. Paste this into the address bar and press Enter (websites can't link to it directly): chrome://extensionsCopy
3. Turn on Developer mode with the switch in the top-right corner.
4. Click Load unpacked and select the bugcap folder (the one that contains manifest.json).
5. Pin Bugcap. Click the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar, then the pin next to Bugcap. Click the Bugcap icon on any tab to start recording, or press Alt+Shift+B.
6. Optional: connect your account. Recording and exporting work without an account. To share reports as links, sign in and connect the extension.

Other browsers

Edge, Brave and Arc work the same way. Open their extensions page instead: edge://extensions in Edge, brave://extensions in Brave, and arc://extensions in Arc. Firefox and Safari aren't supported.

Updating

Extensions installed this way don't update automatically. To update, download the latest zip from this page, replace the contents of your bugcap folder with the new files, then click the reload icon on the Bugcap card in chrome://extensions. Your saved reports stay in place.

When Bugcap is on the Chrome Web Store

Remove this copy first (click Remove on the Bugcap card), then install Bugcap from the store. The store version updates automatically. You can turn Developer mode back off once you no longer have unpacked extensions.

Troubleshooting

• "Manifest file is missing or unreadable": you selected the wrong folder. Pick the folder that directly contains manifest.json.
• A prompt about developer mode extensions: Chrome shows this for any extension that isn't from the store. It's expected, so keep Bugcap enabled.
• The connect page can't find the extension: make sure Bugcap is enabled in chrome://extensions, then reload the page. If you installed a version older than 0.1.1, download the zip again, replace the contents of your bugcap folder, click the reload icon on the Bugcap card, then reload the connect page.
